Anxiety : worry or information?

Many of us have, will or do experience anxiety in our daily lives. And for those who know, anxiety is often uncomfortable both physically and mentally. Anxiety tends to be categorized by racing, recurring or intrusive thoughts, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, rapid speech, and so much more. Anxiety shows up both in our bodies and in our minds, often times becoming overwhelming, chronic and challenging to manage. And while there is a lot of discomfort in this experience, anxiety serves as a messenger for our body.

Anxiety is often our body’s way of calling out for attention and sending us signals of information. While anxiety may originate or be triggered by fear or worry, it often stays to inform us. While this may feel difficult to understand and accept, it is what makes the most difference in being able to find ways to manage and cope with anxiety.

In my time as an Art Therapist and working with clients who experience anxiety finding acceptance, understanding and ways to manage anxiety seem to be the biggest hurdles to overcome. I believe this is very much due to the discomfort that anxiety brings and, as humans, we try to avoid any experience of discomfort. Additionally, I have found that the ways in which people try to manage their anxiety by “thinking their way out of it” is also an ineffective tool due to the fact that anxiety is so heavily felt and experienced in the body.

As a result, I have designed a workshop to help guide attendees through my 6 step method to help you manage your anxiety. In this virtual workshop, I will explain anxiety, explore the different methodologies used to in my method and guide you through the process so you can really feel for yourself the shift in anxiety. The workshop will be held over Zoom on Tuesday, July 30th at 6:30 PM (est). The workshop is a donation based event in order to allow those in need to be able to take advantage of the experience regardless of financial status.
